Giant Spider
About
Giant spider is a light sculpture which comes alive at night. Formed by 70 small spiders it builds the bridge between sculpture and animation film. Light programming creates a sensation of movement that is based on the principle of movement decomposition (chrono photography) and kinetics.
Every small spider presents acrobatic moves such as cycling, looping and incredible jumping. The compilation into a huge spider which moves and plays within the scenery creates a Droste effect (the effect of a picture recursively appearing within itself). The spiders move within a fixed structure, which is the spider web.
The set allows a multidimensional experience for the audience (form and movement, space and time). The spiders, which cause a lot of paradoxical feelings in all of us like attraction and repulsion, are represented in a humoristic way as magical objects.
